ROCKLIN, CA – The Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies will be demonstrating a new Rapid Prototype printer that enables manufacturers to produce prototype models of new parts and products much more quickly and less expensively than traditional preproduction tooling.
The prototype is designed on the computer and then sent to the Dimension SST 3D printer that prints out layers of durable ABS plastic to form an exact 3D replica of the part, accurate in height, width and length. The parts can be assembled, fastened, glued, sanded and painted to look and feel exactly like the product. It is possible to determine if parts fit together as expected as well as give customers an idea of what the product will look like and how it will work.
