Lifelong learning includes customized training to meet the needs of employers
ROCKLIN – Employers in Placer and Nevada counties have one of the best resources in the state for customized employee training based on a performance award recently won by Sierra College. The contract education program offered by the Sierra College Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division (SierraCollegeTraining.com) won an award for Exemplary Sales Performance.
To win, the program had to increase service and training by at least 15% over the last year. The award was presented at the California Community College Economic & Workforce Development Annual Conference in San Francisco on February 28, 2007.
Sierra College provides on-site employee training, tailored to the industry and business needs, according to Sandra Scott, Director of Workforce Development and Continuing Education. “Our business partners and clients give us very high marks on the value and quality of our training services,” said Scott. “This has translated to higher demand for Sierra College customized training and consulting services.”
Companies such as Northrop Grumman Corporation, Carpenter Advanced Ceramics, Nevada Irrigation District, NEC Electronics America, Inc., Blaylocks Inc. and United Natural Foods have used Sierra College’s Training & Development services as well as training offered through the Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT). The college was also innovative in responding to the training needs of industry groups such as California Ski Industry Association that requested Mechatronics training for ski lift operators.
The courses are taught by industry experts, use examples from the company or industry, and cover material selected for its relevancy to employees. The training is offered on a schedule and at a location that is convenient for the employer and employees. Evaluations indicate that Sierra College is hitting the mark. Students report: “Practical and easy to apply,” “good use of case studies,” and “the instructor was very knowledgeable.”
Training topics include supervision, communication, soldering, customer service, business math, MS Office software, process improvement, solid modeling and other similar work related subjects listed at www.SierraCollegeTraining.com.
