Granite Bay students’ robot will compete in FIRST March 23-25 in Davis

ROCKLIN – After an intense six weeks of building a robot out of a set of standard parts plus any they could manufacture, collect or buy within a prescribed budget, high school students residing in South Placer County are ready for their robot to compete in the Sacramento Regional FIRST competition. The robot will play a basketball-like game with and against other teams' entries.
Visuals:
• Students working together to fine-tune, repair and operate robots in competition
• Robots “playing” basketball to score points for the team
Interviews:
• Stephen Miller, Granite Bay High School Teacher and Robotics Club Advisor, will be available for interviews at the competition on Fri., March 24 and Sat., March 25.
• Sandra Scott of Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies, a sponsor of the Granite Bay-based club, is available for interviews prior to the event.
Event:
• Sacramento Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition , at Activities and Recreation Center , UC Davis
• Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 starting at 9am on both days
Competition:
The FIRST Robotics Competition is multinational and attracts 25,000 young people on 1000 teams to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way -- www.usfirst.org and http://firstsac.engineering.ucdavis.edu/pages/competition.html.
Purpose:
To learn teamwork, develop design and technical skills and practice sportsmanship.
