Scott Seacrist teaches Automotive Technology, Robotics and iDesign – Make Almost Anything with Automated CNC Machining (coming spring 08) at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, California. Mr. Seacrist worked closely with Sierra College CACT to win the grant for Lincoln High School that is funding the new iDesign program. He has developed the program curriculum, selected the computers and machining equipment, and worked with the advisory board of employers, educators and community members to create this new program. Before coming to Lincoln High School, Mr. Seacrist taught at Willow Glen High School in San Jose. He was the advisor to the school’s FIRST robotics team (www.usfirst.org). In this program, students plan, design, fabricate and operate a robot in competition with other schools regional and national events.

Mr. Seacrist entered University of California, Davis as a pre-engineering major. When he decided that he wanted to be a teacher, like both of his parents, he switched majors and earned his B.A. in History at the UC Davis. To help pay for college, he worked in the sheet metal industry and used CNC machines. This practical experience guides him as he formulates the new program for Lincoln High School.

Mr.Seacrist first became interested in CNC Machining when he was in high school. When he was a student, he enrolled in a Computer Aided Manufacturing program where he was first introduced to CNC machining. This program sparked his interest in CNC machining and is a model for the new program he is developing at Lincoln High School. He says that as a student, he was looking for a way to make his own auto parts so he wouldn’t have to buy them. That’s what started a life-long passion for CNC machining.

When Mr.Seacrist isn’t teaching, he works on his cars and makes things in his own machine shop at home. He is also a partner in a construction company specializing in cabinet and furniture making. He enjoys outdoor activities too.
