"The training was really valuable in
that it got people to think about wasted effort, and how to start making changes."

Introductory Club Meeting on January 4, 2007 at 6:30 PM
Room 611 Granite Bay High School – Students, mentors and employers welcome. Directions: http://www.granitebayhigh.org/resources/directions/

What the club does: High school students on a multi-school team compete in the FIRST Robotics competition (www.usfirst.org). The students have six weeks, starting in January 6, 2007 to design and build robots out of a common set of parts and to compete against other robots. The team meets at Granite Bay High School. If you like building Lego Mindstorms or K’nex, you’ll want to join in. Come to the meeting January 4 at 6:30 PM at Granite Bay High School in Room 611. Check out our videos.

What the club means to employers: Students who participate in FIRST are more likely to pursue technical education and careers. These students become interested in engineering, fabricating, manufacturing, electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, programming and computer control. Employers support this program because it builds the future workforce.

Donate Materials: You may have spare bolts, sprockets, terminals, rods, aluminum and other parts in your inventory that could help build the team’s robot. Download materials list [PDF] .

Contribute Funds: INTEL contributed $6200 for the entry fee and materials. Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies is contributing funding and resources. Your contribution may be tax deductible, check with your accountant.

Provide Tools: TIG Welder, CNC mini mill, plasma cutter and metal shears.

Be a mentor: Mentors coach small teams by asking questions to help students discover answers to their questions. They’ll guide students through the process of strategy, modeling, designing, building and integrating. Mentors are needed with electrical, programming in C+, pneumatics, mechanics, and chassis and drive systems experience.
